Planting Project Gets a Green "Thumbs
Up"
Trees Will Help Regulate River Temperature
Bloomingdale and Riverdale, NJ, April 18,
2004 - Our stream bank planting was a rousing success. More
than 400 Red-Osier Dogwood cuttings were installed along
Bailey Brook in Bloomingdale. These cuttings will sprout
into attractive shrubs, stopping erosion long this river
tributary and providing valuable wildlife habitat.
In addition, a trio of six foot River Birch
trees, funded through a DEP grant, were planted on the Pequannock
banks in Riverdale across from the Riverdale Quarry on Hamburg
Turnpike. These trees are needed to replace vegatation lost
during a Morris County bridge project, and were supplemented
with more than 100 dogwood, poplar nad willow cuttings.
Again the aim is to provide shade aon the water and restore
riverside habitat.
Thanks to all our volunteers and members for
making this project a success. A followup planting may be
scheduled for autumn 2004. Keep a lookout on our calendar!
